"We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." GGJ 2014

That was the theme anounced at the start of the 2014 Global Game Jam. Markus was fortunate to team up with a group of dedicated creators who embraced the theme and looked for an idea that would embody it's meaning. The result was to place the player in the character of an elderly person.

The Elder Strolls

Seniors don't see themselves as old, and perceive the world through the experience and skills accumulated over a lifetime. The player starts out only able to shuffle along at a leisurely pace but, as each challenge is encountered (walking on a moving bus, obstacles on a busy street, climbing a staircase) the player faces the challenge as an activity from their youth (balancing on a fence, a hockey goalie, climbing a mountain).

The game was created using Unity, Maya and Photoshop but sadly, the Unity player has become obsolete and the game is no longer playable. Markus created the figures and animation in the game plus some minor scripting support.

As is the way with game jams, progress was made and new friends were found. Imagine what could have been done with just a few more hours!
